Heinrich Seelige (born November 12, 1872 in Sendenhorst ; † 1937 ) was a Westphalian sculptor who mainly worked in the vicinity of his hometown Sendenhorst. His conventional sculptures are in the tradition of the art of historicism .

Life

After school he completed an apprenticeship as a sculptor in Anton Mormann's workshop in Wiedenbrück . After that, Seelige got a job in the stonemason workshop of his stepfather Laurenz Dümmer. For a few years he was drawn into the distance. He worked in many sculpting workshops until he came back to Westphalia . There he settled in Beckum and married Elisabeth Hürkamp from Enniger in 1904. In 1910, Seelige moved back to Sendenhorst and acquired the Wieler family's ancestral home at Oststrasse 12. Here he set up his sculptor's workshop and continued to run the existing restaurant.

Marian column

Seelige is responsible for the Marian column in Marienpark and the high cross in the old cemetery on Elisabethstrasse in Beckum. The memorial at Sendenhorster cemetery in honor of the fallen of two world wars is also a work by Seelige that he erected at the church at that time. After its completion, the Sendenhorst Marian Column was erected in front of the south portal of St. Martin's Church and stood on a high, artfully decorated pedestal, also created by Seelige. The base was lost when the column was moved to its current location.

For the Marienbogen in Warendorfer Oststraße, Seelige created the four life-size trumpet angels based on designs by Albert Mazzotti from Münster , made of pear wood. There are various details about the creator of the Hubertus monument in Ennigerloh. What is certain, however, is that Seelige designed the monument. This design was still in his restaurant years after the sculptor's death.
