Heinrich Stümcke

Heinrich Karl Alwin Stümcke (born May 7, 1871 in Yekaterinburg , † January 19, 1923 in Berlin ) was a German writer, theater critic and translator.

His father Heinrich Stümcke was the chief mining authority. He came to Germany early and attended high school in Bremen. He studied philosophy, economics and German in Munich, Leipzig, Berlin and Geneva. In 1894 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. After traveling through various European countries, he settled in Berlin, where he was editor of the journals Neue literary Blätter and West-Eastern Rundschau . In October 1898 he founded the magazine for theater, literature and art, Bühne und Welt , which he was editor-in-chief until his death. In 1902, on his initiative, the Society for Theater History was founded, in which he worked as secretary.

His estate is in the theater studies collection of the Institute for Media Culture and Theater at the University of Cologne .
