Heinrich Timm (born December 14, 1885 in Kummer (today part of Ludwigslust ); † February 21, 1917 in Metz in the hospital) was a German aircraft designer.

Life

Heinrich Timm is considered one of the first aircraft designers of his time in Mecklenburg . He was interested in aviation, which was still in its infancy at the time. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter, he studied at the technical center in Neustadt-Glewe / Mecklenburg .

Heinrich Timm's father, who ran a sawmill in the Ludwigslust area , helped his son build a double-decker with two propellers and two control surfaces between the wings around 1910. Furthermore, the aircraft was equipped with a box-shaped stabilizer at the rear. There are still no written records about flight attempts with this type of aircraft. However, there are photos, taken around 1912/13, that show two monoplane built by Heinrich Timm. Like the double-decker, both are said to have made a technically and technically excellent impression and, according to contemporary records, were also flown successfully by its designer.

Heinrich Timm acquired the certificate of proficiency for the German pilot's certificate No. 1042 on September 13, 1915 and was deployed as a pilot in the German air force. He was a deputy sergeant in the 2nd Combat Squadron of 7th Squadron and died on February 21, 1917 in the Metz hospital from the severe burns he had suffered six days earlier in a crash landing after a night flight.
