Heinrich Wedrich grew up in a well-known family of manufacturers in Leipzig, whose former members began dyeing, in 1791 laying the foundation stone for the calico printing factory ( W. Wedrich calico and cotton factory ), which eventually specialized in blue prints. In addition to the business with the factories, members of the family were active in other fields of business, for example an older brother of Heinrichs co-founded the Stadtsparkasse in 1862 ( e.g. Stadtsparkasse Česká Lípa ). Through his world travels and the objects he collected, Heinrich gained national fame during his lifetime. His interest was primarily focused on unique zoological items. Wedrich also collected art objects such as small sculptures , portraits , and was active in the field of numismatics and various everyday objects of bourgeois life. For his rapidly growing collection, he used his own building, which over the years became known as the Wedrich Museum . According to a will, he transferred his collection and the museum to his hometown, Bohemian Leipa , after his death . Today, the collection is an important part of the municipal museum, now the Česká Lípa Museum of Local History .

tomb

The members of the Wedrich family were all buried in the family's own grave. The Wedrich crypt is located in the former Frauenkirchhof, near the Church of the Birth of Mary in Česká Lípa. On the initiative of a representative of the city council, Jiří Kocandrle, and the heirs living in Germany and England (Wedrich, Lukié, Farnes), the renovation of the previously dilapidated Wedrich mausoleum has been pushed forward since spring 2012.
