Heinrich Ludwig Christian Dietrich Winter (born February 26, 1843 in Frankfurt am Main , † November 13, 1911 in Kronberg im Taunus ) was a German painter.

Winter was the father of the sculptor Harold Winter and the painter Rolf Winter .

Between 1860 and 1864 Winter was a student of Jakob Becker at the Städel Art Institute . Through his teacher, Winter made the acquaintance of Anton Burger , who invited him to Kronberg. In 1864 Winter accepted this invitation and spent three very labor-intensive years in the Kronberg painters' colony .

At the suggestion of Adolf Schreyer , Winter went to Paris in 1867 at the age of 24 and worked there in a joint studio with Schreyer and Friedrich Steinhart until 1870 . When the war broke out, Winter returned to Germany and volunteered as a medic in the Franco-German War .

After the end of the war, Winter settled in Kronberg forever. This stay was only interrupted by several study trips. a. to Hungary (1868 and 1874), Romania (1883) and the Middle East (1884).

The painter Heinrich Winter died on November 13, 1911 in Kronberg / Taunus at the age of 68.

Scenes from village life predominate in Winter's genre representations. Among other things, he painted the painting Gypsies, which is now in private hands . One focus of his artistic work is his horse pictures. Artistically a little less important are his war pictures, for which he went back to his own experiences and painted them from his soul in this way.

Heinrich-Winter-Straße in Kronberg is named after him.
