Heinz Büker

Heinz Büker (born July 6, 1941 in Oberhausen ) is a former German canoeist .

Heinz Büker from the Alstaden Canoe Club Oberhausen won his first international medal at the 1961 European Championships in Poznan. Together with Fritz Briel , Paul Lange and Friedhelm Wentzke , he won the 4 x 500 meter kayak relay. In 1962 Büker won his first German championship title in a single kayak over 500 meters, in 1965 he repeated his victory, and up to 1967 he took second place four times behind Holger Zander . Together with Zander, Büker achieved third place in both the World Championship and the European Championship in two-man kayaks over 500 meters in 1963. At the Olympic Games in 1964 , the men only competed over 1000 meters; In a two-person kayak, Büker and Zander won the bronze medal behind boats from Sweden and the Netherlands.

For this, he and Zander were awarded the silver bay leaf on December 11, 1964.

In 1966 Büker and Zander took second place behind the Romanian two at the world championship over 500 meters. Büker won his last international medal at the 1967 European Championships in Duisburg. Together with Bernd Guse, Hans Günther and Holger Zander, Büker received the bronze medal with the kayak relay.

After completing his sports career, he worked as a regional trainer for the Canoe Association of North Rhine-Westphalia until he retired .

Heinz Büker is married and has two grown children.
