Heinz Büngeler

Heinz Büngeler (born March 29, 1913 in Halle (Saale) , † March 4, 1943 in the Soviet Union ) was SS-Obersturmführer d. R. ( Waffen-SS ) u. a. Adjutant to the camp commandant in Buchenwald concentration camp .

Life

On March 17, 1933, Büngeler joined the NSDAP ( membership number 2,451,052) and on February 5, 1934 in the SS (membership number 236,287). From February 1934, Büngeler belonged to the Sachsenburg special command and was initially assigned to the security team of the Sachsenburg concentration camp and later to the local camp commandant. From there he moved to the Buchenwald concentration camp as a squad leader and on May 1, 1938 in the same position at the Flossenbürg concentration camp. From October 1, 1938 to the end of December 1939, he was a member of the staff of the SS-Totenkopfverbände ( leaders of the SS-Totenkopfverband) . Then on January 1, 1940, he switched to the inspection of the concentration camps , where he initially worked as a personnel clerk until April 1, 1940 and then until the end of June 1940 as a consultant in the Political Department. He was transferred to Norway by the beginning of July 1940 at the latest. At the beginning of October 1940, Büngeler was transferred back to the Buchenwald concentration camp, where from January 1, 1941 to June 27, 1942 he was adjutant, first of the camp commandant Karl Otto Koch and then Hermann Pisters . He then attended a leadership course at the SS Unterführer School in Radolfzell. At his own request, he did not return to the camp service and was transferred to the Waffen SS , although he was classified as unfit for use in the war due to a meniscus damage. As a member of the SS Panzer Grenadier Division “Totenkopf” , Büngeler fell in the Soviet Union at the beginning of March 1943.
