Heinz Beck (doctor, 1966)

Heinz Beck (born November 11, 1966 in Düren ) is a German physician and professor for experimental epileptology at the University of Bonn .

From 1987 to 1994 he studied medicine at the University of Cologne . In 1994, after defending his dissertation on properties of potassium currents in acutely isolated granule cells of the dentate fascia of juvenile and adult rats, he was awarded the title summa cum laude as Dr. med. PhD . In 1994/1995 he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the department of epileptology of the Medical Faculty of the University of Bonn, from 1995 to 2001 as a research assistant . In 2001 Beck completed his habilitation with a thesis on Cellular Pathophysiology of Human and Animal Experimental Induced Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and was then a Heisenberg fellow until 2004 . In 2004 he turned down appointments to the University of Freiburg and the University of Pennsylvania .

Heinz Beck has been Professor of Experimental Epileptology at the University of Bonn since 2004. In 2005 he was also appointed to the Life and Brain Center within the NeuroCognition research platform .

From 2013 to 2015 he was the first chairman of the German Society for Epileptology .
