history

The founder was the journalist and publisher Fritz Harzendorf (1888–1964). His son Michael, who had suffered from severe epileptic seizures since childhood, was treated by Dieter Janz at the Heidelberg University Hospital at the age of 15 . After a successful therapy with which the seizures were treated, Fritz Harzendorf planned to set up an epilepsy foundation. With the support and advice of Janz, the Michael Foundation was founded on July 11, 1962 and named after Harzendorf's son. Dieter Janz has accompanied the work of the foundation from the start and has been a member of the foundation board since 1962.
