Rüdiger Köhling

Ernst Rüdiger Köhling (born May 21, 1966 in Münster ) is a German neurophysiologist , experimental epileptologist and university lecturer .

Life

Köhling studied human medicine from 1984 to 1991 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster (1991 doctorate). He then completed his training as a specialist in physiology at the Institute for Physiology there ( Erwin-Josef Speckmann ) from 1993 to 1998 . In 1994 and 1995 he did research at the Department of Neurophysiology at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) in Montreal, Canada. In the year he completed his specialist training, Köhling completed his habilitation in Münster in the subject of physiology and became a private lecturer. 1999 followed a research stay at the Department of Neurophysiology at the University of Birmingham in Great Britain.

From 2001 to 2004, Köhling was the head of the “Experimental Epilepsy Research” working group at the Clinic for Epileptology at the University of Bonn ( Christian E. Elger ), and in 2003 he was appointed professor.

In 2004, Köhling was appointed to the chair for physiology at the University of Rostock .

From 2007 to 2009 Köhling was chairman of the German Society for Epileptology and from 2007 to 2015 permanent secretary of the German Physiological Society. From 2011 to 2015 he was vice dean and since 2015 he has been dean of the interdisciplinary faculty of the University of Rostock. In 2013 he was visiting professor for physiology at the Universitá di Modena (Italy).

Köhling is (co-) author of numerous original and review articles in national and international journals. From 2006 to 2010 he was editor of the "Zeitschrift für Epileptologie" of the German Society for Epileptology together with Bernhard J. Steinhoff. Since 2008 he has been co-editor of a textbook on physiology and an associated repository. In 2008 he was co-organizer of the European Epilepsy Congress in Berlin (Chairman of the Organizing Committee) and in 2009 he chaired the 6th joint (three-country) conference of the German, Austrian and Swiss sections of the International League Against Epilepsy in Rostock.
