Felix Schwenke (born May 27, 1979 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German local politician ( SPD ). He has been Lord Mayor of Offenbach am Main since January 21, 2018 .

Youth, training and professional career

Felix Schwenke was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1979, but has lived in Offenbach am Main since his birth. Growing up in the Bieber district , he graduated from the Albert Schweitzer School in 1998 . After his community service he studied French and social studies from 1999 to 2004 for the teaching post at grammar schools at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and graduated with the state examination.

As a scholarship holder of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung , he was awarded a doctorate in political science under the title The idea of ​​"souveraineté nationale" in the discussion on the EU constitutional treaty before the 2005 referendum in France at Goethe University in 2010. phil. PhD .

Political stations

Schwenke was chairman of the Jusos Offenbach from 1998 to 2006 . Since March 2010 he has been chairman of the Offenbach SPD sub-district.

From 2001 to 2012 he was a member of the city ​​council in Offenbach, and from 2004 to 2010 he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.

Schwenke was a full-time city ​​councilor from 2012 to 2016 with responsibility for work, social affairs, education, integration, security, order and the citizens' office. In addition, from 2014 he was also responsible for the finance department and the treasury and tax office. With the changed balance of power in the city parliament after the local elections in 2016 , he was recalled prematurely by the new coalition of CDU, Greens, FDP and FWG and lost his position as a full-time city councilor.

From December 2016 he was an honorary city councilor for the municipal department IV with various areas of responsibility, in particular sport and culture.

In the direct election for Mayor of the City of Offenbach am Main on September 10, 2017, Felix Schwenke ran against seven other applicants. He got 43.3 percent of the votes in the first ballot in the ballot , which he on 24 September 2017, 67 percent against Peter Freier ( CDU won). The turnout was 30.6 percent in the first ballot and 43 percent in the runoff election. Schwenke is the successor to Horst Schneider , whose term of office ended on January 20, 2018.

From 2012 to 2016 Schwenke was chairman of the supervisory board of Seniorenzentrum Offenbach GmbH. In addition, he was a member of the finance committee of the German Association of Cities from March to July 2016 .

Schwenke has been married since 2013 and has two children. He lives with his family in the Offenbach residential area An den Eichen .
