Georg Dietrich (politician, 1909)

Georg Dietrich (born September 19, 1909 in Berlin-Karlshorst ; † November 1, 1998 in Offenbach am Main ) was a German lawyer and Lord Mayor of Offenbach am Main.

Life

Dietrich studied in Leipzig Jura , was a member of the Alte Leipziger Landsmannschaft Afrania and before the Second World War Assessor in Saxony's state service. In the summer of 1937, the social democrat resigned . Until he was drafted into the Wehrmacht , Dietrich worked for the Allianz Group . After the end of the Second World War, Dietrich worked as a legal advisor for the city administration in Magdeburg , then as a city councilor and treasurer .

Since a case of sabotage against the building of the German Democratic Republic had been initiated against him, Dietrich left East Germany in 1950 . After he had found a position in the newly established legal office of the city of Offenbach, he took over its management in 1951.

On May 8, 1957, Georg Dietrich was elected Lord Mayor of Offenbach am Main, after his predecessor Hans Klüber surprisingly took over the mayor's office in Ludwigshafen am Rhein .

Dietrich remained Lord Mayor of Mainstadt for 18 years - until September 30, 1974 . On the day he left his service, he was given honorary citizenship of the city. In addition, the social democrat Dietrich had received numerous other honors, including the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
