Live and act

Jonas Budden came from Selbold to Offenbach am Main and was appointed to the office of Offenbach Oberschultheißen on April 29, 1803. Offenbach was then divided into two administratively independent municipalities. The old community within the city walls was led by a mayor. The new congregation outside the city walls, consisting mainly of French religious refugees , was represented by a mayor .

The term of office of Buddha as high school was marked by the Napoleonic wars and the consequences of the war. After the Battle of Leipzig in 1813, the remaining French units withdrew to Mainz via Hanau (see also → Battle of Hanau ), Offenbach and Frankfurt am Main . The retreating army was constantly involved in skirmishes with pursuers. Offenbach's Prince Carl von Isenburg fled abroad and declared his exit from the Rhine Confederation . Offenbach became part of the newly founded Generalgouvernement Frankfurt and witnessed the billeting of Russian Cossack units . In 1815 Offenbach was briefly placed under Austrian administration and had to pay 60,000 guilders war tax. On June 30, 1816 Offenbach was finally Hessian and the Principality of Isenburg dissolved. The population had dropped to under 6,000 people.

After the municipal code of 1821 stipulated the unification of both Offenbach municipalities into one municipality, on January 1, 1824, Jonas Budden handed over the official duties to the first mayor of Offenbach am Main, Peter Georg d'Orville , who had been elected the year before.

On March 19, 1837, Jonas Budden was elected mayor of Offenbach am Main. He ended this term of office at the age of 66 on January 26, 1849 and handed it over to his successor Friedrich August Schäfer .
