Wilhelm Brink

Carl Adolf Wilhelm Brink (born April 2, 1848 in Eibenstock , † January 21, 1912 in Offenbach am Main ) was a German politician and Lord Mayor of Offenbach.

Life

Brink attended elementary school and grammar school in Zwickau and studied law and economics at the universities in Leipzig and Jena between 1867 and 1872 . He became active in the Arminia Leipzig fraternity in 1866 when he began his studies . During his studies, which ended in February 1873, he served as a one-year volunteer with Rifle Regiment No. 108 and in 1870/71 took part in Infantry Regiment No. 103 as a reserve officer in the war against France. From 1875 he was council assessor in Chemnitz and from 1876 city councilor in Plauen . In February 1883 Wilhelm Brink came to Offenbach am Main as mayor and in October 1887 was entrusted with the title of "Lord Mayor". After Wilhelm Brink had given up his activity in Offenbach in 1907, he was director of an estate owned by Baron von Büsing-Orville in Zinneberg in Upper Bavaria . In 1911 he was a candidate for the Reichstag in the Offenbach-Dieburg constituency for the National Liberal Party .

His brother was Ernst Paul Brink , Lord Mayor of Glauchau.

Merits

In a newspaper note from the “ Offenbach-Post ” from 1982 it is written: “Lord Mayor Brink has done a tremendous job for our city. He was a very simple person, especially popular. Because of his prudence and his strict legality, he was able to teach many a better one for Offenbach. ” When he left office, the citizens honored him with a torchlight procession. The memory of him lasts to this day, so that people are still talking about what he did for the city of Offenbach, especially with regard to construction work for public transport, education and social life. A street in Offenbach was named after him.
