The Malabo International Airport , officially in Spanish Aeropuerto de Malabo , also Saint Isabel Airport , is the largest airport in Equatorial Guinea . It is located on the island of Bioko , about nine kilometers west of the capital Malabo . It is operated by the "Aeropuertos De Guinea Ecuatorial (ADGE)".
General
The airport used to be mainly used by the government of Equatorial Guinea. During the Biafra War , the airport was used for flights to Biafra in Nigeria . The airport now has international status and several European airlines fly to Malabo. Along with Bata Airport and Annobón Airport, Malabo Airport is the only airport in Equatorial Guinea that has a paved runway. The Malabo Airport is also used for military purposes. Several parking positions allow larger aircraft such as an Airbus A330 or a McDonnell Douglas MD-11 to arrive .

There are some flights to Europe. The largest flight contingent to Europe is offered by Iberia to Madrid . Malabo is also served daily by Lufthansa via Lagos and Air France . Flights within Africa such as to Cameroon and Ethiopia are also on the flight schedule. In addition, cargo flights are operated by two cargo airlines . Turkish Airlines has been connecting the airport with Istanbul Airport since February 2020 .
