Uwe Schmidt (born March 18, 1954 in Alfeld – Brunkensen ) is a political scientist and since July 1, 2009 the district administrator ( SPD ) of the Kassel district .

Life

Schmidt grew up as the youngest of eleven children of a carpenter .

After graduating from commercial school in 1970, he completed training as an industrial clerk at the Fagus factory in Alfeld in 1973 .

After obtaining the general university entrance qualification, Schmidt studied theology from 1976 to 1979 at the Philipps University in Marburg . In 1979 he switched to studying political science, sociology , public law and social ethics , which he graduated in 1984 with a diploma in political science .

From 1984 to 1990 Uwe Schmidt worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Political Science at the Philipps University in Marburg.

Schmidt is married and has two children.

Political party

In 1976 Schmidt joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).

From 1995 to 2001 he held the position of assessor in the sub-district executive of the SPD Kassel-Land.

Schmidt served as chairman of the sub-district from August 2001 to April 2015.

From 1988 to 1990, Schmidt was a member of the city ​​council as well as the main and finance committee of the city of Wetter (Hessen) .

From January 1991 to September 2002 he was full-time mayor of the Helsa municipality ( Kassel district ).

He was the first district councilor for the Kassel district from September 2002 to June 2009.

On January 25, 2009, he was elected as the successor of Udo Schlitzberger to the district administrator of the Kassel district with 64.5 percent of the votes cast . He took office on July 1, 2009. On January 25, 2015, he was directly re-elected with 61.9% of the vote.
