Brunkensen is located west of Alfeld between the Duinger Berg in the northwest and Reuberg in the south and the seven mountains in the east and Hils in the west. The Glene, which gave the valley its name, flows through the village.

history

Hermann Wristbergh, who has lived in Winzenburg Castle since 1372 , acquired the Brunkensen Bailiwick from the noblemen of Homburg in 1393 . Christoph von Wrisberg was the first of his family to live in Brunkensen after an inheritance had been divided.

There are two manors in Brunkensen, one in the village (formerly owned by the Wrisberg and their heirs, Count Goertz ) and the "Upper Gut" from the 19th century, formerly owned by the von Löhneysen family and later by the Roth family from Weteritz and now the von Velsen-Zerweck family (descendants of the Roth family).

From 1896 to 1967 the place had a rail connection over the small railway line Voldagsen-Duingen-Delligsen.

On March 1, 1974, the municipality of Brunkensen from the district of Holzminden was reorganized into the district of Alfeld (Leine) and at the same time incorporated into its district town.
