The Duinger Berg is up to 331 m above sea level. NN high ridge of the Lower Saxony mountains in the district of Hildesheim in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).
Geographical location
The Duinger Berg is located in the western part of the Leinebergland , a northern part of the Lower Saxony mountains . With its main summit, the Babenstein, it stretches for about 7.5 km in the triangle of the villages of Eime , Alfeld and Duingen . It lies between Deinsen and Lübbrechtsen in the north, Rott , Hoyershausen and Lütgenholzen in the east, Brunkensen in the south-east, Coppengrave in the south, Duingen in the south-west and Weenzen and Marienhagen in the north-west.
The main summit of the Duinger Berg is the Babenstein ( 331 m above sea level ), a little further south-east is the Kikedal ( 319 m above sea level ).
The Thüster Berg extends northwest of the Duinger Berg , the Külf to the east, the Reuberg to the southeast and the Ith to the west , part of which is part of the Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln Nature Park . The valley of the Glene , a southwest tributary of the Leine , leads over to the Reuberg.
Geology and landscape
The Duinger Berg is a fold made of Thüster limestone . On the steeply sloping northeast flank there are several limestone cliffs , mostly hidden in the forest , such as the Rotter Cliffs near the village of Rott am Babenstein, and there are also some in the southeast at the exit of the Wolfsschlucht. There are abandoned limestone quarries in the northwestern part of the ridge . In addition, limestone debris heaps were found in small areas .
The Duinger Berg is densely populated in particular by deciduous forest.
Transport links and hiking
The federal highway 240 leads past Duinger Berg in the northwest and the federal highway 3 a little to the east . The Ith-Hils-Weg , the Kansteinweg and the Pottlandweg run over the ridge . A hiking trail runs over its ridge from Marienhagen to Brunkensen. On October 3, 2016, the Leinebergland balcony ( ⊙ ) was opened at the Lübbrechts quarry . The refuge with a viewing platform is around 100 m above the Külftal. From there you can see the northeastern Leinebergland, Alfeld, Hanover and the Brocken .
