Dehnsen is a district of the town of Alfeld (Leine) and is located in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony . The federal highway 3 runs through the village .

geography

Dehnsen is located in the Leinebergland between the Seven Mountains and the Leine in the east and the Külf ridge in the west, about 7 km north of Alfeld. Since the construction of the Hanover – Göttingen railway line in 1854, it has been bounded by this in the east.

history

The consonance of names with the town of Deinsen, which is only about 20 km away, makes precise historical research difficult. Dehnsen was apparently called Dedensen earlier . The place was mentioned in various historical documents in 1400 as Dedensen , 1588 as Densen , 1594 as Degensen , 1664 as Däensen , 1732 as Dähnsen , 1708 and 1720 as Dehnsen .

In addition to the Count of Hallermund , the feudal lords of Dehnsen were the Counts of Wohldenberg and the Gandersheim monastery . The oldest news about their possessions in Dehnsen comes from the year 1274, in which Aschwin II von Steinberg gave three hooves in Dehnsen to the Hildesheim cathedral church .

In the course of the regional and administrative reform, Dehnsen lost its independence on March 1, 1974 and has been part of the city of Alfeld (Leine) ever since.

coat of arms

The municipality was given the coat of arms on July 30, 1938 by the President of the Province of Hanover . The district administrator from Alfeld presented it on December 15 of the same year.

Dehnsen coat of arms
Blazon : "On blue above a silver , lowered, diagonally right wave bar, a pulling gold - armored , silver heron ."
Justification of the coat of arms: Since the local history of Dehnsen offers no basis for the design of the coat of arms, the municipality chose the heron as a symbol. The proud bird, which can only be found in a few pieces today, was often represented in the local linen lowlands and the adjacent woodlands.

Culture and sights

The Dehnser Chapel, inaugurated in 1929

The old chapel from 1732 was renovated in 1812 due to its poor structural condition and replaced by a multi-purpose church building in 1929. This is in communal ownership and today, in addition to sacred purposes, serves the senior gymnastics group as a training room and the rifle club on the top floor as a clubhouse and shooting range. A public bathing establishment was originally housed in the basement, and the school also used a hall on the ground floor as a classroom. In the attic, accommodation for young people was initially accommodated, later an apartment was built here. The old building was first rededicated as a fire station and demolished in 1981. As a replacement, a new fire station was built on Bundesstraße 3 .
