Jochen Partsch (born April 29, 1962 in Hammelburg , Lower Franconia ) is a German politician of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party and has been Lord Mayor of Darmstadt since June 21, 2011 . From November 2006 to June 2011 he was head of social affairs in Darmstadt. In the mayor's run-off election on April 10, 2011, he prevailed against incumbent Walter Hoffmann ( SPD ). He is the first green mayor of a large city in Hesse.

Life

Partsch graduated from the Frobenius-Gymnasium Hammelburg in 1981 . From 1982 to 1989 he studied social sciences at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and graduated with a degree in social economics . He did his community service during his studies from 1985 to 1986 at the Göttingen University Hospital .

In 1990 Partsch initially hired himself out as a factory worker at FAG Kugelfischer in Schweinfurt . From 1991 to 1994 he worked in marketing at Taylorix in Stuttgart . From 1995 to 2004 he was a consultant for local employment promotion at the Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Soziale Brennpunkte Hessen and from 2004 to 2006 he was a lecturer at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences for community-based employment promotion in disadvantaged districts.

Partsch has been married to the Green politician Daniela Wagner since 1994 .

Political party

In 1983, Partsch was a co-founder of the Greens' association in the Bad Kissingen district .

politics

From 1997 to 2006 Partsch sat for the Greens in the Darmstadt city ​​council and was parliamentary group leader from 2003 to 2006. From 2001 to 2006 he was Chairman of the Committee on Social and Health Services. Since November 15, 2006, he has been a full-time city councilor and department head for social affairs, youth, housing, labor market policy, women's policy and intercultural affairs.

In the run-off election for mayor on April 10, 2011, Partsch prevailed against incumbent Walter Hoffmann with 69.1% of the vote. He is the first green Lord Mayor of a large city in Hesse and the first Lord Mayor of Darmstadt since the Second World War who is not a member of the SPD. During the city council meeting on June 21, 2011 in the darmstadtium congress center , Partsch was introduced to his office.

On March 18, 2012, Partsch was a member of the 15th Federal Assembly . He was elected at the suggestion of the Greens.

On March 19, 2017, he ran again as candidate for mayor of the Greens and was supported by the CDU , which renounced its own candidate. Partsch was confirmed in office with 50.4% of the votes and a turnout of 43.9% in the first ballot.
