Robert Barth (politician)

Robert Barth (born January 25, 1900 in Goddelau , † May 15, 1942 in Belgorod , USSR ) was a German politician of the NSDAP . From 1933 to 1942 he was Lord Mayor of Mainz .

Life

Robert Barth was the son of the general practitioner Wilhelm Barth. He was married.

After graduating from high school in 1918 and the First World War, which he had participated in as an infantry sergeant on the French western front, he joined a free corps at the turn of 1918/1919 , with which he fought against the Spartacus uprising . From the winter semester of 1919 he began to study medicine, then law in Giessen and Munich. During his studies in 1919 he was a member of the Germania Gießen fraternity . He took part in the Kapp Putsch and the uprisings in Upper Silesia . After his exam in 1923 he qualified in the preparatory service of the Hessian judiciary and administration, which was followed by the assessor examination in 1926. He worked as an assessor at the Offenbach , Wald-Michelbach , Zwingenberg and Mainz district courts . In 1928 he received his doctorate in law and in 1931 he was appointed to the district court advisor in Offenbach am Main .

Robert Barth had been a member of the NSDAP since December 1, 1931. A little later he became party chairman in Offenbach and head of the Gau legal office of the Gau Hessen . From 1932 to 1933 he was an elected member of the Landtag of the People's State of Hesse in the 6th electoral term . After the seizure of power of Hitler Barth was appointed on March 9, the police director of Worms from 12 March 1933 Superintendent of Mainz. On March 31, 1933, Rudolf Mueller was relieved of his office as Lord Mayor of Darmstadt , and on April 1, Barth was temporarily appointed as his successor.

After Wilhelm Ehrhard was deposed as Lord Mayor of Mainz by the Nazis on March 26, 1933, Philipp Wilhelm Jung, President of the State of Hesse, initially held the office temporarily. On May 23, 1933, Barth became mayor, initially temporarily. He held this office until his death in 1942. Heinrich Ritter was his successor . From August 1933, Barth was also acting district manager in the Mainz district.

Barth volunteered for military service at the beginning of World War II in 1939 and in 1942 fell to the rank of first lieutenant in Belgorod, Russia (Army Field Hospital 4/542) on the Eastern Front. During this time he was represented by Provincial Director Wehner.
