Justus Georg Kahlert

Justus Georg Kahlert (born March 13, 1800 in Darmstadt ; † December 22, 1862 in Darmstadt) was a Hessian politician and mayor or lord mayor of Darmstadt.

Life stations

Justus Georg Kahlert was born the son of master dyer Christian Kahlert and his wife Christine, née Diehl. On August 18, 1822, he married his wife Katharina Margarethe, née Hax, in Darmstadt.

Kahlert was a businessman in Darmstadt and founded a cloth goods shop in Darmstadt in 1822.

From December 1, 1841 to May 24, 1849, Kahlert was a member of the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse for the constituency of the city of Darmstadt , before he was sent to the pre-parliament in March 1848 to prepare for the Frankfurt National Assembly in the Frankfurt Paulskirche . Then he was also a member of the Committee of Fifties set up by the pre-parliament .

Since 1831 Kahlert was a member of the Darmstadt municipal council. In 1836 he was appointed alderman, and in 1848 mayor of Darmstadt. After ten years of activity, he was awarded the honorary title of Lord Mayor on December 26, 1858 .

From December 18, 1856 to June 17, 1862 he was again a member of the estates.

Justus Georg Kahlert was buried in the old cemetery in Darmstadt (grave site: IA 54).
