Uwe Heinemann

Uwe Heinemann (born February 17, 1944 in Genthin ; † September 8, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German neuroscientist and experimental epileptologist .

Life

After studying medicine in Munich (doctorate with Otto D. Creutzfeldt ), Heinemann completed a PhD from 1968 to 1971 at the University of Oxford in England. From 1972 to 1982 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Neurobiology of the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich (with Hans Dieter Lux ). From 1982 to 1985 he was a Heisenberg fellow from the German Research Foundation .

In 1986 he was appointed a C3 professor for neurophysiology and pathophysiology at the Institute for Physiology at the University of Cologne , and in 1993 he moved to the Johannes Müller Center for Physiology at the Charité University Medicine in Berlin as director of the Institute for Neurophysiology . From 2012 he was Senior Professor at the Neuroscientific Research Center in Berlin, which he founded in 1999 and headed until 2005.

Heinemann was a founding member in 1984 and first chairman of the Commission for Neurobiology of Epilepsy until 1987 as well as a member of the long-term planning committee of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) from 1984 to 1986 and a founding member of the European Epilepsy Academy EUREPA in 1996. From 1993 to 1995 he was chairman of the German section of the ILAE (since 2004: German Society for Epileptology ; DGfE);

  • 2012: Honorary membership of the German Society for Epileptology
