Heinz Hönig

Heinz Hönig (born June 2, 1929 in Graz ) is an Austrian composer of electronic music (also a jazz saxophonist ) and a university professor .

Life

Hönig initially received private music lessons ( flute , clarinet ). He completed his electrical engineering studies at the Graz University of Technology and graduated in 1959 with a degree in engineering.

He was a jazz musician with the Alpenland broadcasting group, the ORF and with various jazz groups (including Fridl Althaller, the brothers Manfred and Rudolf Josel , Dieter Glawischnig , Johannes Fehring ).

From 1965 he taught at the newly founded Institute for Jazz at the Graz Music Academy. In 1965 he founded the Institute for Electronic Music. In 1972 he was appointed associate professor and in 1975 full professor. He headed the institute until his retirement in 1995.

He was also a co-initiator of the inter-university sound engineering course at the Technical University and the Graz University of Music.
