Heinz Hammer (born March 27, 1920 ) is a former German soccer player who played first division soccer for BSG KWU / Turbine Erfurt between 1949 and 1955 . In 1954 and 1955 he was GDR champion with Turbine Erfurt.

Athletic career

After the end of the Second World War , Hammer first played for SG Henry Pels Erfurt. When the company sports association (BSG) KWU Erfurt had qualified for the first season of the new East German soccer zone league (later DS-Oberliga, GDR-Oberliga ), Hammer moved there in the summer of 1949.

In the now highest East German football class, he was used as a striker from the second day of the game and was also used in the other 24 point games. Hammer scored three goals in his first league season. Parallel to their league appearance, the BSG KWU made it into the GDR Cup final . The Erfurt met there with Hammer as a half right striker on the BSG EHW Thale and lost 0: 4. Also in the 1950/51 season, Hammer was a regular for the Erfurt team, who had renamed themselves BSG Turbine Erfurt. He scored seven goals, but could not be used in the last eight point games due to injury. But he was ready for the playoff of the GDR football league 1950/51 for the GDR championship against BSG Chemie Leipzig . The play-off had become necessary because Erfurt and Leipzig were tied at the top of the table at the end of the season. Turbine Erfurt played again with a hammer on half right, but after twelve minutes he had to be replaced again injured. Erfurt finally lost the game with 0: 2. Hammer had to undergo an operation on his knee and was not used in the league team again until the 17th matchday of the 1951/52 season, two matchdays before the winter break. With several interruptions, he had 14 championship games by the end of the season, but this time only scored two goals. For the 1952/53 season, Hammer found his way back to his old level, played all 32 point games. This time coach Hans Carl used him variably in the attack, in addition to his regular position on the half-right as a left winger or center forward. Hammer scored five goals.

In the summer of 1953 Hammer went into his fifth league season at the age of 34. After he had played on the first day of the 1953/54 season, he fell out again for several weeks and then came only eight times as a substitute for the course. He only had a marginal share in winning the Erfurt championship. In the 1954/55 season Hammer felt better again. He was able to play 19 of the 26 point games played, only twice he was not called up from the start. Although he only scored once, this time he had a larger share in his team's renewed title win. At the end of the season he said goodbye to competitive football. Within six seasons he had been used in 126 championship games and scored 18 goals. There are also five games that Hammer played for the Thuringian national team.
