Heinz Hermann Brauer

Heinz Hermann Brauer (born May 30, 1929 in Langen ; † January 31, 2016 in Bremen ) was a German lawyer and church president in Bremen.

biography

education and profession

After graduating from high school, Brauer studied law at the University of Göttingen . He then became a local judge in Bremen in 1960 and then switched to the public prosecutor's office . In 1972 he became the chief public prosecutor in charge of the Bremen public prosecutor's office.

Church work

He began his commitment as a church elder in the Evangelical Reformed parish of Blumenthal . Since 1965 he was a member of the Kirchentag of the Bremen Evangelical Church (BEK). In 1967 he became Vice President of the BEK. From 1969 to 1976 and again from 1989 to 2001 he was President of the Church Committee of the BEK. During his time, he brought the BEK constitution, given in 1920, to a new level, for a lay church built from below, in which the 69 congregations can regulate their affairs jointly via the Kirchentag and the church committee. He promoted the church community work in the district and the dialogue between church and politics.

From 1978/79 to 1990/91 Brauer was a member of the EKD Synod in Germany. He campaigned for good cooperation between the East German and West German churches and for the possibility of immigration of Russian Jews.

From 1977, Brauer was President of the North German Mission . He developed a partnership with the Togo Presbyterian Church and the Ghanaian Presbyterian Church. He initiated the construction of a hospital in Togo and that of apprentice workshops for agricultural work in Ghana .

Brauer was married and had children and grandchildren. He died on January 31, 2016 after a serious illness at the age of 86.
