Heinz Hess
Heinz Hess (born April 9, 1941 in Oberdachstetten ( Middle Franconia ); † March 18, 2006 ) was a German entrepreneur and pioneer in the field of natural clothing. He founded the company Hess Natur .
Life
Heinz Hess, the son of a cattle dealer, initially did an apprenticeship as a cattle dealer, but then did not join his father's business, but studied business administration in Pforzheim . He then worked in the market research department of the American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly , where he was promoted to product manager in a short time.
In 1976 he gave up this career to devote himself to the distribution of clothing made from natural, chemically untreated fabrics. This decision was influenced by the thoughts of anthroposophy , in which Hess saw a way to harmony between man and nature. The founding of a mail order business for natural textiles for the whole family together with Dorothea Hess (common business idea, common founding in 1976, common management until 1982) as "Dorothea Hess - dispatch of natural goods" fell at a time of ecological awakening. The need for an alternative to synthetic or highly chemically finished fibers was great among many consumers. The mail order business was able to quickly develop from the smallest beginnings in the basement of the Hessian single-family house into the largest sector-specific eco-company based in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . In the beginning, it was difficult to get ecologically produced clothing. It was necessary to work closely with the suppliers right through to the ecological cultivation of the fibers and to take on entrepreneurial risk there. Today "hessnatur" has 700,000 customers and works with producers from all over the world.
In 1998, Heinz Hess also took over the mail order company “ Kunst und Spiel ”, which is now known as “Livipur Kinder. Game. Versand GmbH " operates. Heinz Hess sold his company to Neckermann AG in 2001 .
Heinz Hess supported the environmental bank in its establishment and was most recently chairman of the environmental council.
He died unexpectedly at the age of 65 from complications from a stroke .
