Heinz Holter

Heinz Alois Friedrich Alfred Holter (born June 5, 1904 in Leonding ; † July 31, 1993 ) was an Austrian biochemist and cell physiologist . He worked at the Carlsberg Laboratory in protein chemistry .

Life

He spent his youth and school days in Graz . Both parents died at an early age and in 1921 he became an orphan. After graduating from high school in 1923, he went to the University of Vienna to study chemistry. In 1930 he went to the Carlsberg Laboratory in Copenhagen, where he stayed for the rest of his career. In 1939 he became a Danish citizen. Holter is considered a co-founder of the academic journal Science & Society . He was a close friend of Niels Bohr .

In collaboration with his colleague and friend Kaj Ulrik Linderstrøm-Lang, he developed various micro-methods of biochemical analysis with the aim of studying biochemical processes at the cell level.
