Heinz Ide

Heinz Ide (* 1912 in Neuruppin ; † 1973 in Bremen ) was a German German scholar and educational reformer, founder of the Action Group for Democratic Teachers (1968) and the Bremen collective and co-founder of the specialist journal Discussion Deutsch .

Life

Heinz Ide studied German in Königsberg . After military service and imprisonment, he became a teacher of German, history and English at two high schools in Bremen - the Hermann-Böse-Gymnasium and the Alte Gymnasium  - and later the head of German at the Bremen study seminar. After he had already made a name for himself through Germanistic specialist publications, he developed a lively journalistic activity from 1969. Together with a group of teachers from Bremen, he founded the Bremen collective , which was committed to reforming conventional grammar school German teaching under the banner of “critical reading”. Instead of receiving the texts of the German classics as parts of a timelessly valid literary canon, students should understand the historical and social circumstances under which they were created and thus become aware of the ideological character of these texts. In 1970, Ide published a collection of essays at Metzler Verlag under the title Inventory of German Lessons , which made the Bremen collective known nationwide and led to a whole series of other publications on the reform of German teaching.
