Heinz Maier (athlete)

Heinz Maier (born March 28, 1954 in Simbach bei Landau ) is a former German athlete who was one of the best German medium-distance runners in the 1970s and 1980s .

His greatest success was third place at the German Championships in 1977 over 800 meters, behind Willi Wülbeck (SG Osterfeld Oberhausen) and Bernd Toepfer ( LG Frankfurt ).

Heinz Maier was in the German national team three times from 1977 to 1979. n His Lower Bavarian records over 800 meters (1: 47.9 min on August 7, 1977 in Hamburg), 1000 meters (2: 22.4 min on August 13, 1977 in Kil (Sweden)) and 1500 meters (3:41 , 1 mi on May 31, 1978 in Munich) have remained unbroken to this day.

He started for TSV Simbach and from the mid-1970s for TV Eggenfelden. Maier lives in Mühldorf am Inn .
