Heinz Mellmann

Heinz Mellmann , actually Heinrich Mellmann (born November 10, 1913 in Osnabrück , † May 5, 1945 in Beelitz near Potsdam ) was a German graphic artist . He made u. a. Illustrations for Grimms fairy tales that appeared as slides (so-called Heimel slides ).

Life

Heinrich (Heinz) Mellmann was the second of three sons of the carpenter Josef Mellmann and the seamstress Wilhelmine Magdalena Lobe gt. Laube and the brother of Walter Mellmann . After finishing secondary school in 1929, he began an apprenticeship as a decorator and poster painter in the M. Conitzer & Sons department store in Osnabrück. After graduating in 1932, Mellmann worked for a year as a volunteer and then as a regular employee in his training company. At the same time he also qualified as a bookbinder and attended various public courses to train himself in drawing and photography. In 1939 Mellmann went to Stuttgart, where he married Else Lebküchner, and worked as a laboratory assistant and salesman in the Stuttgart photo and art dealer Schaller. In 1943 he ended his employment with Schaller in order to set up the company "Hessenauer & Mellmann, Diapositive und Projektionsartikel" with his brother-in-law Wilhelm Hessenauer. Under the name Heimel-Dias , he brought out illustrations for Grimms' fairy tales as slides that were suitable for demonstrations in kindergartens and at home. In December 1944 Mellmann had to enter and fell on May 5, 1945 in the Battle of Beelitz near Potsdam.
