Manfred Renn

Manfred Renn (* 1948 in Stiefenhofen in the West Allgäu ) is a German linguist from the Alemannic region who mainly deals with the dialects of Allgäu and the dialects of the surrounding regions of Augsburg and Upper Bavaria .

biography

Manfred Renn received his doctorate in 1992 from the University of Augsburg with his work Die Mundart in the Augsburg area. Studies on dialect and dialect change in the field of tension between urban-rural and Alemannic-Bavarian contrasts .

Since 1984 he has been working at the University of Augsburg on the project Sprachatlas von Bayerisch-Schwaben (SBS), which was published in full in 2005 with a total of 15 volumes. Dialect surveys were carried out for this company for five years in the northern Allgäu , western Upper Bavaria and in the Augsburg-Perennial area. For four years he also coordinated the recording work of other language atlas projects on dialect in Bavaria .

Until 2005 he created, among other things, colored and commented maps for the compact volume Kleiner Bayerischer Sprachatlas (KBSA). Since the end of 2004 Manfred Renn has been working on the atlas published on November 8, 2007 with the title Small Language Atlas of Bavarian Swabia (KSBS) for Bavarian Swabia and the neighboring Upper Bavaria .
