Heinz Mielke (veterinarian)

Heinz Mielke (born March 18, 1931 ; † August 21, 2017 ) was a German veterinarian and specialist veterinarian for physiologists as well as a professor at the University of Leipzig .

Training, studies, scientific career

Mielke completed an agricultural training and then studied veterinary medicine at the University of Leipzig and in Leningrad . In 1958 he received his doctorate with a thesis on liver metabolism in dogs and completed his habilitation in 1965 with a thesis on milk storage in cattle's udder . After working as an assistant, senior assistant and lecturer in veterinary physiology at the University of Leipzig, he was appointed full professor there in 1972. He held this position until 1992.

His research areas were liver metabolism, regulation of the cardiovascular system and respiration, the physiology of the central nervous system and lactation physiology . With the conductivity measurement of milk, Mielke developed a practical quick method for udder diagnostics and contributed new knowledge about the immune system as well as the hormonal and neural control of milk production. Heinz Mielke has made a variety of publications - he wrote or was involved in 181 publications.

Varia

  • For many years after his retirement, Heinz Mielke lived and researched in Machern . He published his own research results about his new place of residence on the Internet, which were also published in the local community newspaper.
