Heinz Poll (choreographer)
Heinz Poll ( 1926 in Oberhausen - April 30, 2006 in Cleveland Heights , Ohio ) was a German-American dancer and choreographer.
Life
Poll was trained as a dancer at the Folkwang School in Essen from 1946 . He then worked in East Berlin , but left the city for political reasons and in 1951 went to Chile to attend the national ballet there.
In 1962 he became ballet master of the Ballet de Jeunesses musicales de France. In 1964 he came to the USA as a guest with the Chilean ballet. He performed at the American Dance Festival and then stayed in New York as a teacher at the National Academy of Ballet under the direction of Thalia Mara . In Akron, he founded the Chamber Ballet, later Ohio Ballet, at the University of Akron in 1968 with eight students. In 31 years he has choreographed 60 ballets.
In 1999 he retired. He died of complications from kidney disease.
