Heinz Riek (born June 25, 1918 in Berlin ; † June 3, 2006 there ) was a German journalist. He was instrumental in building up radio and television in post-war Germany .

Act

Even as a schoolboy, Heinz Riek earned pocket money by taking on small speaking roles in the Haus des Rundfunks in Berlin's Masurenallee.

In 1938 he began studying journalism with Emil Dovifat at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin and also worked for radio and television station Paul Nipkow under the director Hans-Jürgen Nierentz . When he was called up for military service in the Air Force in 1939, his entry into journalism was ended for the time being.

After his release from American captivity in 1945 in Ludwigsburg , Heinz Riek initially found work in the French-controlled broadcasting network in Germany. In 1946 he moved to Berlin and worked as a freelancer for the Stuttgart magazine Der Standpunkt . This was followed by a brief commitment to DIAS , wire radio in the American sector (forerunner of RIAS ).

In June 1946, Riek started working as chief reporter for the NWDR in Berlin. His main tasks included setting up and managing the current Zeitfunk editorial team with the broadcasts Rund um die Berolina , Echo des Tages and Berlin on the microphone .

From 1948 on, he was also instrumental in building up democratic post-war television. He and his team demonstrated the results of this preparatory work at the German Industrial Exhibition. Subsequently, in 1951, he was commissioned to broadcast a two-hour daily television program in Berlin. In 1954 he was appointed TV station manager at the newly founded broadcaster Free Berlin .

In April 1959, Heinz Riek was appointed to Hamburg, where he initially took over the development and program management of North German advertising television. From 1961 he was responsible for the regional television North Show . In 1978 he received the Hans Bredow Medal for his services to German broadcasting . Until his retirement in 1983, he held various management positions at NDR.
