Heinz Sobota

Heinz Sobota (born November 9, 1944 in Bad Sauerbrunn in Burgenland; died August 26, 2017 in Munich ) was an Austrian criminal and writer .

Life

Heinz Sobota was born as the son of bank employee Karl Sobota in Bad Sauerbrunn, Burgenland. He was sentenced to a juvenile prison for theft and started his criminal career. After a series of criminal offenses and other troubles, he attempted to kill his father, was convicted of robbery, and was re-sent to a prison. In the Viennese milieu he became known as a pimp and violent criminal after his release.

His novel “The Minus Man” was written in seven weeks while he was imprisoned in a Marseille prison. Because of the brutality it contained, the book was only accepted by a publisher after many unsuccessful attempts, but immediately became a bestseller after publication. Heinz Sobota lived in Munich until his death.

Movie

Despite many attempts, Heinz Sobota's book has not yet been made into a film.

In March 2018 the documentary " Der Minusmann - die Doku " by Sladjana Krsteska and Alban Bekic was presented at the Diagonale in Graz.

The filmmaker Marie Elisa Scheidt made a short documentary with Heinz Sobota in 2013, which she describes as semi-fictional and mainly consists of the representation of conversations.
