Heinz Werner Ketzer

Heinz Werner Ketzer (born September 29, 1914 in Düsseldorf , † August 8, 1984 in Cologne ) was a Roman Catholic priest and provost of Cologne Cathedral .

Life

Heretic was ordained a priest in 1939. From 1940 to 1945 military service and imprisonment. After his time as chaplain in Cologne and Essen, he became a pastor in the parish church of Hl. Dreikönige zu Neuss on February 26, 1961 . On May 7, 1977, Pope Paul VI awarded him . the honorary title of chaplain to His Holiness ; on September 1, 1978 he was elected provost of the cathedral in Cologne.

The cathedral provost, known far beyond Cologne for his humorous sermons, was a classic example of the compatibility of church authority with Rhenish cheerfulness. In 1981 he was appointed 32nd Knight of the Order Against Animal Seriousness in Aachen .

The advice he once gave the Cologne football clubs has not been forgotten: "You should pray to St. Rita for hopeless matters, then we'll see."

The Dompropst-Ketzer-Strasse in Cologne is named in his honor. His grave is located on the Cologne Cathedral Cemetery, popularly known as platform no. 1 , right next to Cologne Central Station.
