Heinz Winckler

Heinz Winckler (born March 22, 1978 in Stellenbosch , South Africa ; actually Heinz Carl Heinrich Winckler ) is a South African singer . He was the 2002 winner of the first season of Idols , the South African version of Pop Idol .

Before starting his career as a singer, Winckler studied law at the University of Stellenbosch .

Winckler's debut single Once in a Lifetime achieved double platinum status in South Africa . He was nominated for two awards at the South African Music Awards : Once In A Lifetime for Best Single of the Year and One Step Closer for Best Album of the Year.

He was invited by the Walt Disney Company to sing the theme song Chasing Shadows for the film Treasure Planet .

In December 2003 he finished fourth in the international television competition World Idol , in which the winners of all pop idol competitions held worldwide competed against each other.

Heinz has been married to Alette de Klerk since 2006.
