Superstar Weltweit (World Idol) is a so far unique show that took place in London at the end of 2003 . A total of eleven winners of the Pop Idol formats took part.

Kelly Clarkson ( United States ) and Will Young ( United Kingdom ) were considered favorites for the World Idol title , but only finished second and fifth. The winner was Kurt Nilsen from Norway .

The points were distributed along the lines of the Eurovision Song Contest . Votes were cast by phone. The inhabitants of the countries of the associated show formats could vote on the remaining 10 participants in the other formats. In addition, each of the participants was awarded 12 points from their own country as a “country favorite”.

Kurt Nilsen was the winner of the show, but could not assert himself internationally. Only the US singer Kelly Clarkson has managed to make a name for herself internationally. Her second album Breakaway sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
