Heinz Winkel

Heinz Winkel (born April 19, 1914 in Schönwalde , † February 5, 1962 ) was a German orchestra leader of the music corps of the Berlin police and chief musician.

Life

Heinz Winkel joined the police on July 1, 1934, and did military service from October 1936 to October 1938. In the 1930s he was also a trumpeter in the music corps of the motorized gendarmerie in Potsdam and a member of the National Socialist People's Welfare . From November 1940 to March 1943 he studied music at the Berlin Conservatory , which he completed with the music master's examination with a grade of good . From March to April 1943, Winkel then took part in the 19th reserve officer candidate course in Mariaschein , where he passed a specialist examination. On August 14, 1943, he was appointed lieutenant in the police force and music master, and was assigned to the Breslau police administration, where he was in charge of the Police Emergency Music Corps 1. In August 1944, Winkel and his music corps were sent to the Police Weapons School I in Dresden and in December of the same year they were placed under the command of the Salzburg Ordinance Police.

After the end of the war, Heinz Winkel joined the Berlin police service in November 1945 as chief sergeant in the road inspection service at Police Station 31 / Tiergarten Police Station. In response to his intervention with the Berlin police chief, he succeeded in forming a police orchestra which was set up in November 1948 and which he directed until his death in 1962. At the Whitsun Concerts in the Berlin Zoo and the large police shows in the Berlin Olympic Stadium , the music corps of the Berlin Police Police achieved a high profile. He also distinguished himself through numerous recordings.
