Heis is a small impact crater in the northwest of the front of the moon in the level of the Mare Imbrium , south of the crater C. Herschel and west of the ridge Dorsum Heim . To the southwest is the larger Delisle crater . The Rima Delisle runs between this and Heis, to the north of which lies Rupes Boris , an area of ​​special interest during the Apollo missions. The northern edge is from the secondary crater dorsum A superimposed.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German astronomer Eduard Heis (1806–1877), who was also active in meteor research .
