C. Herschel is a small impact crater in the western part of the Mare Imbrium . He lies on a ridge of the sea called Dorsum Heim . To the south-southwest is the similarly shaped crater Heis .

C. Herschel is circular and bowl-shaped and shows no noticeable traces of erosion. The inside of the crater does not differ in its albedo from the surroundings.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the British astronomer Caroline Herschel .
