Palm trees in Heisler Park

Heisler Park is located on steep cliffs on the seashore and extends over a length of around 1200 meters on Cliff Drive. From the paths and viewpoints you can see Laguna Beach and the Pacific Ocean . The Monument Point is a small peninsula and is in the center of the park. A variety of palm trees shape the appearance of the park. Stairs lead to the narrow sandy beaches below the rocks. At the east exit of the park, the city center and Main Beach can be reached via stairs.

There are barbecue areas, picnic tables and benches on the park area. There are also several art installations and sculptures on display throughout the area . The Laguna Art Museum , which opened in 1918 , is an art museum on Cliff Drive across from the park .

The Bird Rock ("bird rock") juts out of the sea off the coast of Heisler Park. The flat rock provides a retreat for several species of birds and is therefore not open to the public. In the vicinity of the rock there are specimens of the rare broad-footed snails , red sea urchins and sea cucumbers .

The seashore in Heisler Park is framed by cliffs on the land side. Staircases and ramps give access to the beaches. At low tide you can walk around in the rocks and small sea creatures in the tidal pools ( tidepools watch). The riparian zone is therefore placed under nature protection as the Heisler Park State Marine Reserve .

The Monument Point , a ledge, extends into the center of the park into the sea and divides the shore zone into two sections.

Picnic Beach

The Picnic Beach ("picnic beach") is about 200 meters long and lies below the cliffs in the western part of the park. The narrow sandy beach is used for sunbathing and as a starting point for swimming. The coastline is frequented by surfers and divers . Sea anemones and various types of mussels live in the tidal pools .

Rock pile

Rock Pile is a small semicircular bay and is located on the south-eastern edge of Heisler Park. The coastline of this section is also around 200 meters long. The shore and the sea floor are covered by numerous rocks that protrude from the water here. Common beach crabs and hermit crabs live in the tidal pools . Rockpile is one of the three official Laguna Beach surfing areas.
