Hekate is a band from Koblenz named after Hekate , the Greek goddess of necromancy and spook . The band, influenced by Neofolk , was founded in 1991 and combines historical and modern style influences.

music

Hekate processed u. a. Elements from folk, classical music, songwriters and the Middle Ages and combines them with experimental, electronic sounds. The instrumentation includes percussion, drums, period instruments, guitars and synthesizers. The texts deal with myths and legends ( Barbarossa , the fairy Morgana le Fay , the Cathars or the Moors ). In addition to his own texts, Hekate also uses culturally significant texts from previous epochs and presents them in different languages ​​(French, English, Yiddish , German).

Band history

Hekate was initially founded as an experimental Atonal project. The first appearance took place during an art exhibition at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. A first CD was created in 1996 while working with the ambient project Chorea Minor . The band had live performances at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig, at the M'era Luna Festival Festival in Hildesheim and in various clubs in Germany and abroad.
