Šikolová started internationally for the first time at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Vysoké Tatry . There she was fifth with the relay and fourth over 10 km. In early March 1970, she finished third over 10 km at the Lahti Ski Games . The following year she took third place with the relay at the Lahti Ski Games. She had her greatest international success at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo . There she won the bronze medal over 5 km. In addition, she ran there in seventh place over 10 km and sixth place with the relay. Her daughter Helena Balatková-Erbenová is also a former cross-country skier.
At the Czechoslovak Championships Šikolová won seven times with the relay (1969-1975) and once over 5 km (1969).
