Helena Helmersson (* 1973 ) is a Swedish manager . Since January 2020 she has been the managing director of the Swedish textile company H&M (Hennes & Mauritz).

Career

Helena Helmersson completed a Masters in Business Administration at the University of Umeå in northern Sweden . After graduating, she joined H&M in 1997 - where she has remained to this day. In total, she held over 14 positions during her career with the fashion company. Helmersson started out as a controller in the purchasing department. In 2007 she headed production in Bangladesh, during which time she was drawn to sustainability. In 2010 she was appointed Head of Sustainability at H&M. During her era as those in charge, the fashion company publicly admitted that it wanted to pay fair wages in the future.

Helena Helmersson has been the managing director since January 30, 2020. This makes her the first woman in the 62-year history of H&M to hold this position. She is also the third person in this post outside of the family.

On May 5, 2014, the Swedish business magazine Veckans Affärer named her the most powerful businesswoman of the year. This change was positively received on the stock exchange and the share price rose by 10%

Private

Helena Helmersson was born in Skellefteå . Today she lives in Stockholm with her husband and two children .

She had once lived and worked in Dhaka for a year . In an interview she cited this experience as the reason for her "commitment to more sustainability and against precarious working conditions" in the textile industry.
