Helene Hubener
Helene Hübener (born April 14, 1843 in Sternberg , † June 5, 1918 in Gehlsdorf ) was a German writer.
Life
Helene Hübener comes from a pious Mecklenburg rectory. She was the second of seven children and grew up in simple circumstances. When she was nine years old, her father died and the mother moved with the children to Rostock. In Rostock, Helene Hübener attended a secondary school for girls . She then lived for 26 years to support her aunt in Saxony, with only one short break when she worked as an educator in a noble manor in Mecklenburg . She left her aunt and moved to Rostock to take care of her sister Marie, who was paralyzed by an accident. Helene Hubener was close to her mother again, who moved in with her shortly before her death and was cared for by her until her death. She lived with her sister in Gehlsdorf at Gehlsheimer Straße 3.
Helene Hübener never married and only began writing when she was around 40. She wrote religious books. In the first books such as Spring must come and Three Friends , she processed her own experiences as a governess and as a support for her aunt. In her later books she often referred to the experiences of her siblings, who were teachers (Marie and Theodor) or pastors (Wilhelm and Friedrich).
Afterlife
Helene Hubener's books are still published today and have been available almost continuously since they were first published. Her books were published by D. Gundert Verlag (Stuttgart) until 1958, today they are published in edited form by the Francke bookshop in Marburg as part of the Heimatlicht series.
On September 30, 2016, a path was named after Helene Hübener in the Rostock district of Evershagen .
