Helga Berger

Helga Berger (born December 19, 1972 ) is an Austrian administrative lawyer. Since January 1, 2016, she has been Head of Section II - Budget in the Federal Ministry of Finance .

biography

Helga Berger grew up in Frauenstein (Carinthia) . Her father Karl Berger (1940–2017) served as mayor of the community for over thirty years. She studied law at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz and then worked as a parliamentary employee in the EU Parliament and as a consultant in the office of the Carinthian governor. From 2000 to 2003 she was head of the cabinet of the then Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Public Achievements and Sport Susanne Riess-Passer . Then she was a criminal judge at the District Court of Vienna-Hernals until 2006.

In 2007, then President of the Court of Auditors, Josef Moser, made her head of the communications department there, and from 2010 to 2015 she was head of the presidential section. On January 1st, she was appointed head of the budget section in the Ministry of Finance by Finance Minister Hans Jörg Schelling .

In June 2016, Berger , who was previously considered to be close to the FPÖ, was nominated by the parliamentary club of the ÖVP as a candidate for the office of President of the Court of Auditors. In the end, however, the Styrian State Audit Office Director Margit Kraker was elected by the National Council - also proposed by the ÖVP .

She is a member of the supervisory board of the Federal Real Estate Company (BIG).
