In addition to the dominant landmark, there are other castles and palaces that were important for the formation of the medieval capital St. Veit, z. Until the revolution of 1848, today's municipal area belonged to the dominions of Kraigerberg and Nussberg. In 1849/1850 the existing cadastral communities were formed into the local communities Schaumboden, Obermühlbach and Pfannhof, of which the latter became extinct in 1899 when it was divided into the communities Kraig and Meiselding. In 1973 today's community of Frauenstein was formed from the communities of Kraig, Obermühlbach and Schaumboden and parts of the communities of Pisweg and Sankt Georgen am Längsee.
