Helga Reusch

Helga Reusch (born February 10, 1916 in Berlin ; † June 21, 1978 there ) was a German classical archaeologist .

After graduating from high school in Berlin in 1935, Helga Reusch first studied drawing at an art school. Since the summer of 1939 she studied classical archeology, art history and ancient history in Berlin and Marburg . In the spring of 1945 she was one of the last students of Gerhart Rodenwaldt in Berlin to receive her doctorate with a thesis on the subject of Cretan-Mycenaean textile ornamentation . From 1945 to 1946, she then worked as a consultant at the Office for Popular Education in Berlin-Mitte.

In 1947 she received a research assignment at the Humboldt University. Continuing earlier research and using the breaks of her academic teacher, she researched the Cretan - Mycenaean wall painting . 1950–1951 she had to take a break due to illness before working as a research assistant at the Winckelmann Institute at Humboldt University. On December 1, 1954, she became a research assistant at the Institute for Greco-Roman Antiquities of the German Academy of Sciences , where she became senior assistant in 1957 and head of the working group in 1964. There she headed the editorial department of the Classical Studies section . In 1964 she completed her habilitation with Gottfried von Lücken in Rostock . She took part in the German-Bulgarian excavations in the Iatrus castle , which she was in charge of from 1968 to 1971. She then retired from scientific work due to illness.
